Articulation, Consortium, and Partnerships Agreements

The Registrar's office has collected the following university agreements in a central repository to encourage accessibility of information and improve communication of such initiatives.

The purpose of articulation agreements are to provide cooperation for programmatic purposes, specifically providing program access through the ability to provide transfer-ability of students from one institution to another.

The purpose of consortium agreements is an agreement between eligible schools which enables students to attend classes at another college or university using various types of aid award by The Ohio State University.

Advanced Placement

Description: Legislation passed in 2007 and took effect in the fall of 2009 guarantees college credit for any of the 36 Advanced Placement tests currently available from the College Board. Any Ohio student attending an Ohio public institution of higher education who scores a '3' or higher on an AP test will receive this credit, which will usually count towards the general education curriculum, and in many instances the Ohio Transfer 36 credit or even a Transfer Assurance Guide credit.

Description: The Big Ten Academic Alliance is the nation’s preeminent model for effective collaboration among research universities. For more than half a century, these world-class institutions have advanced their academic missions, generated unique opportunities for students and faculty, and served the common good by sharing expertise, leveraging campus resources, and collaborating on innovative programs.

Career-Technical Credit Transfer

Description: Legislation directs the Ohio Department of Higher Education to work collaboratively with the Ohio Department of Education, public adult and secondary career-technical education, and public institutions of higher education in Ohio to establish criteria, policies, and procedures to transfer agree-upon technical courses from one system to another.

Higher Education Council of Columbus (HECC)

Description: The Higher Education Council of Columbus is an association of colleges and universities located in the greater Columbus metropolitan area. As a service to students at the participating institutions, HECC approved a cross-registration program for regularly enrolled undergraduate, full-time students only (registered for 12 or more credit hours).

Industry Recognized Credential Transfer Assurance Guide

Description: ITAGs are a statewide transfer initiative that guarantees the award of college-level credit to students earning agreed upon industry-recognized credentials. The award of credit is based upon the knowledge, skills, and competencies gained through credential attainment regardless of where the learning to prepare for the credential took place.

Military Credit and Military Transfer Assurance Guides

Description: Students who have served in the armed forces or National Guard may have their training and coursework translated to college credit. All training, experience, and coursework must first be recognized by the American Council on Education or a regional accrediting body, such as the Higher Learning Commission, in order to be eligible to earn college credit.

Military Transfer Assurance Guides provide a statewide guarantee that certain types of military training, experience, and/or coursework align to existing college and university courses and will be awarded appropriate credit.

Ohio Articulation and Transfer Policy

Description: Ohio’s Articulation and Transfer Policy applies to college course credits, documented learning specified within the Policy, and related articulation and transfer matters for all undergraduate and other students who seek admission to an Ohio public institution of higher education and desire to: 1) transfer college credit among Ohio public institutions of higher education or 2) articulate secondary, postsecondary, and other prior learning experiences as college credit to public institutions of higher education as specifically approved in the policy.

Ohio Guaranteed Transfer Pathways

Description: The Ohio Guaranteed Transfer Pathways are designed to provide a clearer path to degree completion for students pursuing associate degrees who plan to transfer to an Ohio public university to complete their bachelor’s degree. The OGTPs also constitute an agreement between public community colleges and universities confirming that community college courses meet major preparation requirements and will be counted and applied toward the bachelor’s degree. Students still must meet all university program admission requirements.

Ohio Transfer 36

Description: The Ohio Transfer 36 is a subset or the complete set of a public college's or university's general education requirement that represents a common body of knowledge and academic skills, is comprised of 36 semester hours of courses in the following fields: English composition and oral communication; mathematics, statistics and logic; arts and humanities; social and behavioral sciences; natural sciences; and diversity, equity, and inclusion. Additional elective hours from among the various Ohio Transfer 36 areas make up the total hours for a completed Ohio Transfer 36. Students are guaranteed the transfer of Ohio Transfer 36 credits among Ohio's public colleges and universities and equitable treatment in the application of credits to admissions and degree requirements.

Pathway Agreements

Description: The Ohio State University has developed articulated program pathways with a number of Ohio community colleges and technical institutions. These pathways are designed to provide students the ability to transfer credits efficiently and seamlessly, to complete a bachelor's degree in an aligned discipline.

Transfer Assurance Guides

Description: The Transfer Assurance Guides are pre-major/beginning major courses. All courses in TAGs are guaranteed to transfer and apply directly to the major requirements accordingly. In totality , the TAGs are guaranteed pathways for students and are very powerful advising tools for faculty and other advisors. TAG courses are developed, endorsed, and reviewed by faculty in the content areas.
